My girlfriend desperately wanted a Telfar bag, so much so that I had never experienced such a desire from her. However because of the hype created around this culturally significant American brand, everywhere had sold out. So I tried to source it but without luck. Eventually I found a bag on marktplaats (the Dutch equivalent to eBay or Craigslist) and it was only listed at 50€. I was so excited to have finally found the bag but quickly this turned to alarm. It didn’t seem legit. Why when the resale value of other bags I had seen, were so much higher than the RRP because of demand, was this so cheap? I studied the photos of the bag, comparing it to other bags, looking at the different details, trying to work out whether I was getting conned with the angles the bag had been photographed at. Was I being deceived? Was this bag authentic? I decided to write to the seller and her response to ‘ is the bag real?’ , was, ‘ yah. He is 1.1’ (translated through google). I still didn’t know what this meant and so I wrote back but didn’t receive a response. Unfortunately I had already told my girlfriend about the bag and she was insisting I bought it, she wanted it so bad. I just couldn’t because 50€ is 50€ and I wanted a guaranteed real authentic bag. The purchase wasn’t made. (She finally found one in Barcelona, so I bought it).
